Foxtrail Alternative in Zurich: Cheaper Puzzle Tours for Families 2026
April 10, 2026 · 5 min read
Foxtrail is the most famous puzzle-tour provider in Switzerland — and for good reason. Their trails are clever, exciting, and lead through beautiful places. But: Foxtrail is expensive and not suitable for small kids. We'll show you why Quartierrätsel is the perfect alternative.
Foxtrail: Great for adults, hard for kids
Foxtrail was designed for adults and teenagers. The puzzles assume general knowledge, reading skills and logical thinking — barely solvable for a 7-year-old. The official age recommendation is 10 to 12 years, and even then kids need help.
Then there's the price: a family of four pays CHF 116 to 144 for a classic Foxtrail. The cheaper Foxtrail GO still costs CHF 76 for four people — and is also recommended for ages 10+.
Quartierrätsel: Designed for ages 6 to 10
We built Quartierrätsel specifically for the gap Foxtrail leaves open: younger kids who want the same kind of adventure but without the frustration. Every puzzle is solvable without school knowledge, every story is rooted in a real Zurich neighbourhood, and the price is fixed CHF 29 per group (up to 6 people).
That's a difference of up to CHF 115 compared to a classic Foxtrail — for a tour that's actually fun for your 7-year-old.
When Foxtrail is still the better choice
Fairness first: Foxtrail isn't bad — just different. If your kids are 12 or older and you want a longer, more challenging trail, Foxtrail is a great pick. Their physical installations (real locks, hidden clues) are unique. They're also ideal for corporate events and adult groups.
The bottom line
For families with younger children (6–10), Quartierrätsel is the best choice in Zurich. Age-appropriate puzzles, fair pricing, and tours that lead through exciting neighbourhoods instead of the crowded city centre.
